Privacy policy
Last updated 16 July 2026
PressRush Media Inc. ("PressRush", "we", "us") respects your privacy. This policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and protect personal information under Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and British Columbia's Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA), which applies to our operations in BC.
1. Organization identity
PressRush Media Inc., 155 Water Street, Suite 110, Vancouver, BC V6B 1A7, Canada. BN 803517246 RC0001. Privacy contact: [email protected].
2. What we collect
We may collect:
- Contact and tip forms: name, email, subject, message content, and PIPEDA consent flag.
- Newsletter / membership enquiries: name, email, billing details if you subscribe (processed by payment partners).
- Technical data: IP address, browser type, device identifiers, pages visited, referral URLs, approximate region derived from IP.
- Cookies: strictly necessary cookies; optional analytics, advertising, and preference cookies with consent. See cookie policy.
- Server logs: timestamps, request paths, and error codes for security monitoring.
We do not collect government-issued ID numbers, financial account numbers, or precise geolocation through the public website except where you voluntarily include them in a message.
3. Purposes of collection
We use personal information to:
- Respond to enquiries, tips, and correction requests;
- Deliver newsletters and membership services you request;
- Operate, secure, and improve pressrush.life;
- Measure audience with optional analytics (if consented);
- Display labelled advertising (if consented);
- Comply with law and enforce our terms.
4. Consent
We collect personal information with your knowledge and consent, except where permitted by law. Form consent checkboxes are not pre-ticked. Cookie choices are stored for six months. You may withdraw consent subject to legal or contractual restrictions.
5. Disclosure
We may share information with:
- Service providers (hosting, email delivery, analytics, payment processing) under contractual safeguards;
- Authorities when required by law or to protect rights and safety;
- Professional advisers under confidentiality.
We do not sell personal information.
6. Cross-border processing
Some service providers may process data outside Canada. We assess safeguards and disclose this where relevant. BC PIPA requires us to inform you when personal information may be stored or accessed outside Canada.
When we transfer personal information to service providers in the United States or other jurisdictions, we rely on contractual clauses requiring protection comparable to PIPEDA fair information principles, vendor security certifications where available, and data-processing agreements limiting use to specified purposes. You may request information about cross-border transfers by emailing [email protected].
7. BC PIPA — additional rights for British Columbia
Because PressRush operates in British Columbia, PIPA supplements PIPEDA for personal information we collect, use, or disclose in the course of our BC activities. Under PIPA you may:
- Request access to personal information we hold about you;
- Request correction of inaccurate information;
- Ask how your information has been used and to whom it has been disclosed;
- Challenge our compliance with PIPA by contacting the BC Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner.
We designate a privacy contact to respond to PIPA access requests within timeframes required by law. We may charge a minimal fee for copying records where permitted.
8. Retention
We retain information only as long as needed for the purposes collected, unless a longer period is required by law. Contact form records: up to 24 months unless a tip develops into active reporting. Analytics logs: per vendor defaults or 26 months maximum.
9. Security
We use administrative, technical, and physical safeguards appropriate to the sensitivity of information, including TLS encryption, access controls, and vendor review. No method is perfectly secure; report concerns to [email protected].
Staff with access to personal information receive privacy training. Production credentials are rotated. Tip submissions that may identify confidential sources are stored separately from general CRM records with tighter access lists.
10. Breach notification
If a breach of security safeguards creates a real risk of significant harm, we will notify affected individuals and report to regulators as required under PIPEDA and PIPA, including the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada and the BC Commissioner where applicable. Notifications will describe the incident, information involved, and steps you can take to reduce risk.
11. Your rights
Under PIPEDA and BC PIPA you may request access to, correction of, or deletion of personal information we control, subject to exceptions. Contact [email protected]. We respond within 30 days where required.
12. Office of the Privacy Commissioner
If we cannot resolve your concern, you may contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada or the BC Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner for matters under PIPA.
13. Children
PressRush is intended for general audiences. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 without parental consent.
14. Analytics and advertising partners
When you consent to analytics cookies, we may use privacy-reviewed vendors to understand aggregate readership — for example which sections receive traffic and whether navigation paths function on mobile devices. IP addresses may be truncated before storage. We do not use analytics to profile individual readers for editorial decisions.
Advertising partners, when consented, may set cookies to measure labelled campaign delivery and cap repeat impressions. Sponsored placements are visually distinct from news content. Advertising data is not combined with tip-form submissions.
15. Data minimization and accuracy
We collect only information reasonably required for stated purposes. We encourage you to provide accurate contact details so we can respond to corrections or tips. You may ask us to update or delete marketing preferences at any time.
16. Accountability
PressRush maintains internal policies aligned with PIPEDA's ten fair information principles and PIPA requirements. We review vendors periodically and document privacy impact considerations for new features such as membership billing or interactive forms.
Our privacy officer coordinates responses to access requests, cookie enquiries, and vendor assessments. Editorial staff receive separate training on handling confidential tips without exposing source identities in production systems.
17. Changes
We may update this policy. Material changes will be noted with a new "Last updated" date. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy where permitted by law.
18. Changelog
- 16 July 2026: Initial publication covering PIPEDA and BC PIPA; cookie consent banner; contact and tip forms; optional analytics and advertising categories.
Archived versions may be available on request where retention requirements apply. The canonical current version is always hosted at pressrush.life/privacy.php.
19. Questions
Email [email protected] or write PressRush Media Inc., 155 Water Street, Suite 110, Vancouver, BC V6B 1A7, Canada. We aim to acknowledge privacy enquiries within five business days.
For access requests, include sufficient detail to help us locate records (for example the email address used on a form and approximate date). We may verify identity before releasing personal information. Authorized agents may submit requests with written authorization evidence.
20. Complaint process
If you believe we mishandled personal information, contact our privacy officer first. We will investigate and respond with our findings and proposed remedy where applicable. Unresolved concerns may be escalated to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada or the BC Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner as described above.
We document privacy complaints and retain records of resolutions for accountability audits. Aggregated complaint statistics may inform internal training but are not published in ways that identify individuals.
21. Regulatory references
Useful resources: PIPEDA overview (OPC); BC Personal Information Protection Act; PressRush cookie policy.
Nothing in this policy constitutes legal advice. Organizations and individuals with complex privacy obligations should consult qualified counsel licensed in Canada. We update references when regulators publish material guidance affecting digital publishers.
22. Lawful access and production orders
When we receive court orders or regulatory demands, we review validity and scope before disclosure. Where permitted, we notify affected individuals. Each production is logged for seven years in an internal accountability register accessible to our privacy officer during audits.
23. Research ethics
Occasional readership surveys require explicit opt-in separate from general browsing. Aggregated results may inform editorial planning but never name participants without written permission. Survey data is deleted within twelve months of publication unless you request earlier removal.
24. Retention schedule summary
Contact forms: up to twenty-four months. Server logs: thirty-day rotation unless security incident requires extension. Cookie consent JSON: six months. Membership billing references: life of account plus ninety days. Marketing suppression lists: indefinite to honour opt-outs.
25. De-identification and archives
Published news articles may remain publicly available as part of the historical record even if you request deletion of personal information contained in tip correspondence. We will remove or redact personal data from non-published submissions upon verified request where no overriding journalistic or legal reason prevents deletion.
26. Contact the privacy officer
Privacy officer: PressRush Media Inc., 155 Water Street, Suite 110, Vancouver, BC V6B 1A7, Canada. Email [email protected] or call +1 (604) 685-3021 during business hours Pacific Time. We acknowledge privacy enquiries within five business days.
Individuals may authorize representatives to submit access requests in writing. We verify authorization before releasing records. PressRush does not charge fees for ordinary access requests unless permitted by law for excessive or repetitive demands.
This policy is reviewed annually and whenever we launch new reader-facing features that collect personal information.
